About

My name is Anna…

I am Polish and have been living in Ireland with my OBH and M since 2006…

I used to say that I did not miss anything in (from?) Poland, but I grew older and, hopefully, wiser and realised it is not true. I miss certain things,  like proper Spring and Autumn with their overpowering smells and colours…

However, most of all I painfully miss the abundance of Fermented Foods. I miss going to a shop to buy  Sauerkraut and not feeling like the village chief eccentric. It is just an essential part of the life back there. We all grew up on fermented vegetables. Seriously.

I am quite lucky to live close to Dublin, where thanks to the apocalyptic wave of immigration from Eastern Europe ten years ago, there are lots of shops selling Fermented Foods.

I am going to tell you stories about my relationship with this stuff to make you curious.

Some of the posts were kindly proofread by my friend Ann Marie. You will easily recognise which ones. For the rest, my apologies.

Enjoy reading!

If you want to know more about my life and my blog listen to the podcast, where I revealed quite a lot of details (to my family’s dismay :-))

  1. Hello Anna!
Im also in Dublin & looking for fermented foods!
Would love some tips from you as to which ones i can buy that are ‘live’ and raw, as opposed to pasteurised… very interested in good gut health!
Looking forward to reading more from you!

    1. Hi, Nina! Thanks for the comment! I don’t know any places where you can buy unpasteurised fermented food in Dublin. But it doesn’t mean they don’t exist. I just do everything at home, which is cheap and easy, so have no need to shop for it. I am going to give a presentation in Dublin soon. Will keep you informed. In the meantime, you can join the group http://www.meetup.com/Dublin-Nutrition-Group/ if haven’t already done so. They are having a meetup about gut flora the coming Wed Sep 30th. I will be there, so we could chat.

  2. Thanks for the follow and leading me to your blog. I too love to ferment and always keen to learn more, so interested to read your carefully detailed posts on the technique.

  3. That is a good point. For me fermenting is a way to preserve and make the best use of whatever I have in the garden. If I can’t ferment it I often dehydrate it and then worry about what to do with it all later.

    1. I would love to have the “abundance problem”! I rather suffer from the scarcity of good quality fruit and veg. But yes, you are right, fermentation is a food preservation method after all. This is why people in Eastern Europe laugh their socks off when you tell them that fermenting is “trendy” now.
